President Ma Shaojian introduced the basic overview of our university regarding disciplinary development, talent cultivation, scientific research innovation, and service to local industries. He particularly shared the university’s experience in constructing scientific research platforms for the sericulture and silk industry and in transforming research outcomes. The visit by the Mahasarakham University delegation not only enhanced mutual understanding between the universities of China and Thailand but also established a platform for practical cooperation in fields such as agricultural research, educational collaboration, and industrial services. Our university consistently adheres to opening up and will use this exchange as an opportunity to deepen cooperation continuously, jointly serving the local economic development and agricultural modernization of both China and Thailand.

President Prayook Srivilai attached great importance to this visit and specially organized an 11-member delegation to visit our university. The delegation included assistant presidents in charge of research, health, and physical education, deans of the Faculty of Business, Faculty of Technology, Faculty of Informatics, School of Humanities and Social Sciences, School of Science, and Confucius Institute, as well as leaders from functional departments such as the Academic Affairs Service Division and Development Planning Division. President Prayook Srivilai expressed his gratitude for the warm reception from our university and showed great satisfaction with the well-arranged itinerary. He introduced the disciplinary strengths of Mahasarakham University in fields such as agricultural sciences, biotechnology, education, and humanities. He noted that Hechi University has achieved remarkable results in sericulture industry research and technical services, and there is broad potential for cooperation between the two institutions in this field. He expressed the hope that this visit would promote the establishment of long-term collaboration mechanisms between the two universities in talent cultivation, scientific research, and industry services.

The visit centered around in-depth discussions on fields such as faculty and student exchange programs, joint talent cultivation, the co-establishment of an international joint laboratory for the development and utilization of silk resources, and cooperation in the sericulture industry. Both parties reached a preliminary consensus to use the sericulture industry as a starting point and explore the establishment of a “Sino-Thai Sericulture Industry Technology Cooperation Center.” They plan to jointly conduct research and development on key technologies such as mulberry cultivation, silkworm disease prevention and control, and silk processing, with the aim of promoting the application of research outcomes in related enterprises in both countries.

During the visit, the delegation also toured various facilities including our university’s Animal Museum, Guangxi Modern Sericulture and Silk Industry College, Local Characteristics Collection Exhibition Center, and Single Bamboo Drifting Training Base. They viewed the ethnic costume designs and painting exhibitions by students from the School of Fine Arts and Design, as well as dance performances by students from the School of Music and Dance. Additionally, the delegation conducted field research at enterprises such as Guangxi Wuhe Bo’ao Pharmaceutical Co., Ltd., Guangxi Jialian Silk Co., Ltd., and Guangxi Danquan Group Industrial Co., Ltd., and held discussions with the People’s Government of Hechi City.

During the delegation’s visit, all faculty and some students of the Thai Language program at our university provided comprehensive Thai translation services. This initiative not only enhanced communication and exchange between China and Thailand, bringing both sides closer, but also fully demonstrated the solid teaching quality and fruitful outcomes of our Thai Language program. Furthermore, this activity served as a valuable practice for local universities to leverage their strengths and strengthen international exchanges and cooperation in higher education, thereby contributing to the development of China-ASEAN education and the establishment of a regional talent hub. (Author: Lu Fuzhi, Lin Na; Photographer: Wei Wentao, Chen Minqi; Proofreaders: Qin Lijuan, Li Feng; Reviewers: Li Xiaodong,  Zhou Xi)
